Monte Rinaldo
A borgo of a hundred guests that closes entirely. Piazza Umberto I for dinner between the palazzi, the twelfth-century church for the ceremony, and a belvedere over the Valdaso to the Sibillini.

Lapedona
Piazza Leopardi — fountain, town-hall loggia — is closed for one wedding at a time. The church on the square holds the largest painted ceiling in Le Marche; the eighteenth-century hall seats a hundred.

The only heptagonal tower in Europe, and a triangular piazza the Comune closes for a single wedding: two hundred at the table, with the frescoed loggia and the Sala Consiliare a few steps away.

A triangular piazza, a theatre the size of a jewel box, and the lacemakers who still work at the tombolo in their doorways. Above the valley, Santa Maria della Rocca stands over the vineyards that give Offida its Pecorino.

Fiastra
Founded in 1142, the Cistercian abbey still keeps the silence its monks built it for. Around it, oak woods and open water; above it, the Sibillini. A place that asks for vows spoken quietly, and remembers them.
SEA & HILLS
Torre di Palme
A single street of terracotta and stone on a cliff above the Adriatic, with a Romanesque church at each end. Below the walls the pine woods drop to the shore, close enough to walk down to before dinner.
THERMAL & MEDIEVAL
Sarnano
Red brick laid in circles up the hill to Piazza Alta, where the borgo ends and the Sibillini begin. Waterfalls in the woods below, thermal springs at the foot of the town, snow on the ridges until spring.
HIDDEN GEM
Smerillo
Four hundred people on a sandstone ridge, and a cleft in the rock you can walk into. From the terrace the Sibillini fill the whole horizon; below, the woods and nothing else. The smallest borgo, and the quietest.
RENAISSANCE VILLAGE
Petritoli
Three gates, a Renaissance stair, and a theatre — the Iride — seating three hundred under a painted ceiling. Outside the walls the Aso valley runs down to the sea between rows of vines and old farmhouses.
ICONIC CASTLE
Gradara
The castle Dante gave to Paolo and Francesca, and the walls that still close around it at night. Two rings of stone, a keep, and a village inside, kept whole and lit from below after dark.
WALLED VILLAGE
Corinaldo
A kilometre of walls without a single breach, and a stone staircase of a hundred steps climbing through the middle of the town. At the top the borgo opens; at the bottom sits the well the legend is named after.
